Scrum for Peace
Thousands of people of all ages grouped together in a giant scrum in the Charrúa Stadium, before the Uruguay-Russia match within the qualifying rounds for the Rugby World Cup 2015 tournament. All of them, united in a symbolic hug, under a poster that read “Uruguay pushes for Solidarity, Peace and Respect” .
In this event, carried out together with Scholas Ocurrentes and the Uruguayan Rugby Union, young people from educational and sport institutions from all religions and those present in the stadium built this scrum, with the peculiarity that it was formed by a single group pushing towards one side and with the same objective: peace.
At the end of the event, each participant was handed a sticker with the shape of a rugby ball that quoted “I push for Peace”, to continue training the value of peace in their own lives, plus a ribbon reading “I pushed for Peace”.
“Those characters popularly loved educate million children with their example, and in sports and art, are excellent tools to shape values” Pope Francis.
