Young Leaders: Qompi Rugby

What is our goal?
To accompany and promote the social inclusion task carried out by Qompi Rugby, strengthening the Toba Qom community of Formosa, focusing on young people and children with the help of older adults to recover their roots and their identity as a people: "using rugby, culture and education as bonding and growth tools" .
Qompi Rugby is a space for recreation and social containment: an alternative to complex social situations, drugs and marginalization.
Founded in 2000, the club is located in the Nam Qom neighborhood (lot 68), on the outskirts of Formosa. It has 140 players in the pre-rugby, children, junior and senior and women categories, who participate in numerous official tournaments and in more than 50 inter club summer tournaments.
"We have achieved a lot of things with the young, not only in sports but also in the human aspect. We have kids who were involved with drugs and we took them out there, they are playing and they are the best players", says Hilario Camacho, president of the club.

The development of the Qompi Rugby Program has the support of the BANCO NACIÓN Foundation (in the photo, the president of the entity, Javier González Fraga, holds in his hands the jersey that the players gave him in the "Tour Qompi 2018") and among the various actions we perform are trips to Formosa, where we generate meeting spaces, expand knowledge about their culture, deliver donations, work with their identity and perform a tailored accompaniment of each player. In addition, in 2018 we are working on the building a space for boys and girls to have their own rugby court and adequate facilities for sports and institutional development.

We also made two trips to Buenos Aires in 2016 and 2018 where more than 70 young players (members of the youth, m18 and first divisions) got to know the city and we conducted training sessions on values, tours of notable landmarks and friendly rugby matches with important local teams. Do you want to know more? We invite you to review photos of the trips that the kids made:
